WHAT IS 9TH FLOOR RADIO? DETAILS, PLEASE!
9th Floor Radio is an internet radio station located at Laney College in Oakland, California. We produce 20 radio shows (podcasts) and a TV show for Peralta TV. We serve as a community resource to Oakland residents and Peralta students interested in media production. Our commitment is to document and support the East Bay music scene- local musicians, DJ's, venues and labels.
All of our shows are archived online. You can download past episodes of any radio show under the 'radio' section of our site. Our television and video content can be found under the 'television' tab.
HOW DO I GET A RADIO SHOW?
In order to apply, send a one paragraph show description through our 'contact' page along with your availability. We are looking for people with focused show ideas. We are *not* looking for someone who plays "all types of music" or talks about "all sorts of topics". Having a specific show idea is key. We are moving to a shorter format (30 minutes) and are mostly looking for talk shows. You must be either an Oakland resident or a Peralta College student to qualify.
WHAT AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR AS A DJ?
Besides hosting your show we require all new DJ's to create a Facebook page and a Twitter account to promote their show.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR AN INTERNSHIP?
Send a two paragraph description of what you are interested in learning (some examples would be hosting, pre-production, audio editing, video editing, promotions, etc.) and any relevant classes or experience.

HOW DO I GET MY MUSIC PLAYED ON 9TH FLOOR RADIO?
We are a free form station, DJ's bring in their own music. If you would like to contact a DJ do so through their Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc.
CAN MY BAND PLAY LIVE IN THE STUDIO?
No, our studio is very small. We cannot accommodate live performances.
CAN YOU VIDEO TAPE MY BAND?
Perhaps. Our "Practice Space" series features interviews and performances by local bands. We only record bands in their practices spaces, we do not record in venues.
WHAT IS A "CULTURAL PODCAST"?
In addition to our music programs, we produce a short podcast highlighting Oakland culture. We typically profile emerging artists and musicians. New shows can be downloaded here.
